dec 1 1999 On!/Lust for Life was a popular weds. night event at Life on Bleecker St. Dec 1 sweden's backyard babies headlined, with support pcp highway & holly golightly. top tunes from nick marc: tighten up [james brown's cover!], shiela take a bow, loaded & venus ***1/4 of 5 stars . guests incl kerri black, alex english and justine d.
dec 3 1999 Exit was a recently opened club on west 56th st [earlier carbon, later Ikon, now terminal 5 ] Diana Balton & I celebrated Sagittarius with music by Peter Rauhofer/Club 69. ***1/2 of 5 stars. now you knopw who peter rauhofer is.. good, not great.
* the same night carl cox and darren emerson were at twilo . and the makeup were at maxwell's in hoboken. gosh i shld hv gone to coxy 1
dec 4 1999 i took the path to maxwell's in hoboken nj to see lloyd cole solo acoustic. guests incl jj & chris from DC & sam kripalani. **** of 5 stars
* then cabbed it back to 212 to hit tiswas at don hill's in soho. nick's top choons: head music & lazy by suede. staying out for the summer by dodgy. vapour trail by ride & mersey paradise by the roses. *** of 5 stars. inm dec 2009 im listening to 'head music' almost every day - im serious suede was the best band of the 1990's 11

dec 11 1999 the salford lads 'the east coast's only smiths tribute band' headlined Tiswas. the band included dj jess, john k, and ezra from sadie.
nick's choons incl jumping jack flash, weirdo & sproston green, spirit in the sky by dr & the medics, & in between days. **** of 5 stars . im feeling so nostalgic now 1
dec 15 1999 ronnie spector's xmas spectacular featuring joey ramone ! at Life! + hedwig & angry inch band. joey rip. met him at coney island. saw the ramones in 77 in nj 111
* also the Pop Art cosmic costume party with aerial love feed [rockethouse], mahogany & bunsen honeydew. rockethouse were among nyuc's best bands of the past 10 years. re-unite 1
dec 16 1999 my birthday party at beavher at don hills with guests carmen kass, diana balton, jackie macallister & jake from squirt tv. frank's hits incl dreaming of me, time clock of the heart, walking on sunshine, dress you up, everything she wants, & rock with you. **** thanks to everyone for a wonderful & warm birthday !!!! carmen was gorgeous and sweet as always. the culture club song pretty much made me cry .. diana i love you xxoo

jan 1 2000 sasha & digweed continued their legendary monthly residency at twilo . a decade later, sasha is in minimasl tech noodles and diggers -- gotta find out out of he can still twist melonjs deep twisted house stylee.

top clubs incl bar 13, Life, don hills & coney island.

dec 3 1994 club expo in times square [now club new york] was one of the most popular saturday nights in autumn 1994.
* afterwards late night eating up to the famous skyyline coffee shoppe on lexington/75th st for a cinnamon raisin bagel and a coffee with half & half. after 40+ years as a nyc institution, skyyline closed a few years ago & is now a StarWich :(
dec 7 1994 disco 2000 at limelight was 1 of the best parties weekly. on the 7th Killing Joke headlined with a powerful set. best song; "Change." kenny kenny hosted. george wayne from paper attended, as well as jenny brunt, a gorgeous brunette model of the day.
dec 8 1994 i saw nine inch nails on the downward spiral tour. marilyn manson & jim rose circus show in support! hi-lites on NIN's strong arena set: war of the pigs. wish. down in it. head like a hole. hurt. joy div's dead souls. and closer. excellent arena show.
* afterwards over to club USA on west 47th st with dr janet guss. the same day howard stern had talked a bridge suicide jumper out of taking his life.

* i had a slice of pizza for lunch at mimi's on 84th/lex. and a late night bagel at H&H bagel on west 80th st. among the city's best pizza & bagels both.
dec 13 1994 I had my birthday party #1 at bowles/sorokko galleries on west broadway where i was assistant director at the time. then down to the knitting factory with randy fx for american music club, a somewhat under-rated & forgotten US alt-rock act of the day.
dec 14 1994 birthday party #2 at johns pizza on bleeecker st. birthday wishes from janet guss, nicole garrison of morrizine, steve erdman, alan barcoff, jane pinkus,jeff lynch, randy fx, diana balton & dj medusa.
dec 16 1994 birthday party #3 at the tunnel on west 27th st. an American Models agency party brought out a great group of guests incl. christy turlington, seal, bridget hall & patrician brunette ralph lauren model saffron. I took several pics of turly and bridget & i stayed til 530 with great techno music all night long. a very memorable birthday/holiday party!
dec 17 birthday party #4/xmas party at jeffrey slonim's townhouse. guests incl alison moore & diana balton. jeff now writes for the ny post & hamptons. we watched 'grey gardens' on vhs; top songs 'we are family," psych furs 'heaven.' & some B-52's.
dec 19 1994 more xmas parties: bowles/soroko gallery on west broadway/prince where i was assistant director. our xmas dinner was at Boom! in soho. too much red wine, too much blood ;) then over to SOB's on varick for the afro-brasilian world music soundtrack. as work xmas parties go this was one of the most fun & tasteful i ever experienced. soho in the early-mid-90s a wondeful time to be there :)

dec 22 1994 another xmas party thsi time at supper club on west 43rd st. guests incl dr janet guss. top song' ini kamoze here comes the hotstepper.
* and shopping at giorgio armani on madison 66th/67th with my brother I bought a navy blue armani black label cravatte with small white rosettes. this was armani's first madison ave flagship, a tall townhouse that later housed Versace.

dec 31 1994 new years eve the infamous "Heaven" rave on long island city queens. juan atkins spun a powerful tech house set. it was a fun if kooky rave; then like 1230 the cops burst in turned the lights on & busted the rave. another disapoppointing new years eve & another nail in teh coffin of nyc's rave scene- which has never returned to its optimistic vibe of the early mid 1990s.
the best photo show I saw in dec 1994 was robert frank & hiroshi sugimoto at lawrence miller in soho.
favourite music in dec 1994 incl new order's greatest hits. and the vinyl james bond soundtrack 'the living daylights' with the pretenders + johnny marr!

Best 45 of 1994: my favourite singles of the year were: Suede's "Stay Together," St. Etienne's "Like a Motorway," Morrissey's "The More You Ignore me the closer I Get," Blur's "Girls & Boys," and the Jesus & Mary Chain's "Sometimes Always." Youn cant argue with that group of bands, as the last 12 years have shown !
LP of the Year: I selected Suede's "Dog Man Star," Blur's "Parklife," Morrissey's "Vauxhall & I," St Etienne's "Tiger Bay," and the JAMC's "Stoned & Dethroned." Again, Classics all !!

** Kurt Cobain's April 8 suicide loomed large over the music events of the year, and this episode includes the NY Times famous front-page obituary of Kurt, "Hesitant Poet of Grunge Rock." I have a tee shirt purchased in spring 1994 of this NY Times Kurt Pg. 1 I'll have to wear some time soon!
Concert of the Year: My top gig of 1994 was the Lemonheads at Roseland with Courtney Love playing 3 encore songs just months after Kurt's suicide. My other favourites were Blur & Pulp together at the Academy, St Etienne & Ivy at Limelight, St Etienne & American Music Club at Manhattan Centre, & Oasis & Ivy at Wetlands. Look at those bands live in NYC in 1994!!
Event of the Year: OJ Simpson was the top tabloid story of 1994. Randy selected "Music" itself as the top media event of 1994.

nov 4, 2004 tony humphries celebrated his birthday at his discoteque 19th st. weekly residence. i dont even think discoteque is open in 2009, 19th st off of 5th ave.
nov 5 2004 DJ Vibe from Portugal & the low end specialists were at spirit. LES played a great progressive opening set & Vibe's tribal tech couldnt quite compete this night- usually Vibe is among the best in the world. spirit's crowd was abysmal & guido/nj as always **1/2 of 5 stars . spririt's been closed a couple of years now after several chelsea deaths. vibe comes to ny about 2 times yearly, he's still among my top 5 or so djs.
nov 6 2004 the death of fashion was at piano's. does anyone still go to piano's
nov 11 2004 larry tee's outsider fest at crobar, an amazing gathering of electronic & house styles. guests incl christine ruggiero, amanda lepore, rupaul and ARE Weapons. first in the reed room: shiela e the glamorous life. then the glimmers & whitey spun hot club sets in the main room. junior vasquez came on at 2 am & kickstarted the night into house overdrive. top tunes incl tamyra grey raindrops will fall. destinys lose my breath. ellis d hands off. cece peniston a deeper love. morales' how wld u feel. do it properly. nasty girl. all 3 rooms were great all night & it was a fun & flamboyant mix like limelight or tunnel in the 90s. one of my best club nights of 2004 **** of 5 stars. many of the acts larry booked that night were electro, but it was a tougher and funkier version they the weak-poppy-ish electro one hears in 2009. in fact electro is sometimes a bad word in 2009. junior was glorious in crobar's big room. now it's m2, i have never gone.
* the same night interpol was at hammerstein ballroom touring their antics LP. arcade fire was at bowery ballrm. when they release lps, both bands still have cre4dibility into 2010.
nov 12 2004 sander kleinenberg was at crobar. and interpol played an impressive 2nd night at hammerstein. Mr X hosted a duran duran tribute night at luke/leroy.

nov 4, 2004 tony humphries celebrated his birthday at his discoteque 19th st. weekly residence. i dont even think discoteque is open in 2009, 19th st off of 5th ave.
nov 5 2004 DJ Vibe from Portugal & the low end specialists were at spirit. LES played a great progressive opening set & Vibe's tribal tech couldnt quite compete this night- usually Vibe is among the best in the world. spirit's crowd was abysmal & guido/nj as always **1/2 of 5 stars . spririt's been closed a couple of years now after several chelsea deaths. vibe comes to ny about 2 times yearly, he's still among my top 5 or so djs.

nov 11 2004 larry tee's outsider fest at crobar, an amazing gathering of electronic & house styles. guests incl christine ruggiero, amanda lepore, rupaul and ARE Weapons. first in the reed room: shiela e the glamorous life. then the glimmers & whitey spun hot club sets in the main room. junior vasquez came on at 2 am & kickstarted the night into house overdrive. top tunes incl tamyra grey raindrops will fall. destinys lose my breath. ellis d hands off. cece peniston a deeper love. morales' how wld u feel. do it properly. nasty girl. all 3 rooms were great all night & it was a fun & flamboyant mix like limelight or tunnel in the 90s. one of my best club nights of 2004 **** of 5 stars. many of the acts larry booked that night were electro, but it was a tougher and funkier version they the weak-poppy-ish electro one hears in 2009. in fact electro is sometimes a bad word in 2009. junior was glorious in crobar's big room. now it's m2, i have never gone.
* the same night interpol was at hammerstein ballroom touring their antics LP. arcade fire was at bowery ballrm. when they release lps, both bands still have cre4dibility into 2010.

nov 5 1999 carl cox played an ultimate base night at twilo. Ive heard a lot of djs in my 30 years clubbing, but carl cox is definitely among the top 3 of all time, and never moreso than at his late 90s twilo super sets, 6-8 hours of pummeling techno & groovy house UN-BEAT-A-BLE !!!! his nov. 2009 cielo housey set was good, but didnt really explode into the techno or disco mania i hoped for.

nov 11 1999 pet shop boys were at hammerstein ballroom. attendees incl justine d, ron m & nancianne from staten. I love the psb but i HATED this show !!! the music was flat & canned & the absurd attempt at post-modern theatrical stagecraft lent the night a deadly, ridiculous [in the worst way] boredom & self-inflicted horridness.
here are some of the great songs the psb butchered that night: west end girls. being boring. se a vida e. its only the wind. what have i done to deserve this? can you forgive her? always on my mind. its a sin. i dont know what you want but were not gonna give it 2 ya tonight. its alright. nyc boy. go west. ** of 5 stars I am as big a PSB song fan as you will meet im obsessed but they were SHIIT in concert!! i have never seen them since, but i still love their music.
* next up to bar 13 for michael T & alex english's Broadcast party. only decent tunes were buffalo stance. i want candy & safety dance. left in less than 30 mins. * of 5 stars.
* finally beavher saved the night as so many times in the 90s: guests incl natane adcock, tessa benson, carmen kass, chloe sevigny, nick marc, dennis from realistics, big bob at the bar & catherine from Oz the waitress. heres frankie's splendid setlist: london calling. take a chance on me. rock this town. rebel, rebel. who can it be now. i melt with you. papa dont preach. dancing with myself. dont you want me. boys dont cry. goody 2 shoes. 99 balloons. ice ice baby [danced this one with ford model natane], this charming man, hungry like the wolf, rock the casbah. * next up to culture club giving justine d's trans am 1 more try. attendees incl carina from tiswas & ron m. stayed about 15 mins, drink tix in hand & hearing love is a battlefield, I ran & rio. *1/4 of 5 stars
* finally over to don hills where beavher saved the night . again! guests incl tessa benson & carmen kass. top tunes from frankie's jukebox: dyer maker. only the good die young. brass monkey. wanna be startin something. jeffersons theme movin on up [!!!]. smells like teen spirit. EMF unbelieveable. heart of glass. ***1/2 of 5 stars. I was drinking johnnie walker & coke & wow did that hurt when i woke up friday mid-afternoon !!!

nov 25 thanksgiving trancegiving at the roxy. a perfecto night with paul oakenfold & dave ralph & hybrid with a live PA. 1999 was paul oakenfold's magic year, as his BBC essential mixes attest. top tune this night was utah saints 'this is not a love song.' Ive been clubbing for 30+ years but this trancegiving debut night and set by oakey at the roxy was among the greatest nights of music Ive ever heard since my first concert in 1971. the music, the vibe, the rave event at the roxy, with oakey at the absolute peak of his skills..... *****+ of 5 stars one of the greatest club nights of my life !!!!!!

sept 2, 2004 orange park was at sin e. tony humphries was holding down his thursday residence at discoteque on 19th st. orange park was 1 of ny's best bands 5 years ago but disbhanded after 2 indie lps. hopefully tony will play nyc more often, he's one of the most important names in us house music since the 80s.
9/3/04 suicide headlined rothko with a rare 21st century nyc appearance. suicide is arguably the most important us electro punk band ever, and still criminally under-appreciated. I was lucky enough to see suicide open up for the ramones at the palladium jan. 7, 1978. Im sure a few of you wish you could have been there.
sept 4, 2004 sander kleinenberg & steve porter played an excellent hard house/progressive house night at crobar, both djs on top form. hi-lites from sandy: blur song 2 [hard house mix] ; doors' riders on the storm [dance mix] . among 3 best sander sets Ive been at. ****1/4 of 5 stars. my review the day after;

straight to the main room. whoa it was packed! prob as many people as any crobar nyc ive been to. For a summer saturday of long weeknd crowd it was a GOOD crobar crowd! face it crobar is a more 'grown up' club than most in nyc. and i dont mean in a snooty 'fashionista-apprentice-bottles' way- I mean there are people older than 20! most of them!! and its a dressier crowd! thats more POLITE than many clubs! [hello discotq & spirit!!]. that actually came out to have FUN not beefs. that can still drink up , disco down and NOT be extra-mangled AND still look good! there are some foxy women at crobar & generally everyone dresses nice. even the mooks had their style-game on [stencil sleeveless tees? cool for YOU!!] and i repeat there were sm babes! steve porter up. LOVE the crobar dj on stage set up! [the old 'skybox' perch was distant & cold].
listen i LIKE steve porter!! in fact after LES Id say hes the best '2nd tier' NYC dj. [meaning about-to-break- but not of DT/jnr-morales-morillo-fame yet].
OK steves set- half instrumental club bangers. sm dirty basslines. sm proggy cool neo-disco. a few sweet-vocal-sander-style funky tracks. -
also some kinda aimless drifty wanna-be progg snoozers that didnt do much but fill time. SO as an OPENING DJ I think Steve did well- in fact he was banging it out from 1-2 as sander loomed.
in fact that was a pretty jumping opening set and sander dug it [in fact 1-2 times during sanders set, porter took over for 1-2 songs while sander refilled that vodka-cranberry rider on stage]
2 am sanders on. the most cheerful ive ever seen him, well at least since arc anyway. the most connecting with crowd ive seen him.
I LOVED SANDERS SET!
2-3 am- progressive dirty bass bangers with an occasional sweet-pop-hyper-female vocal- listen sander can MIX!!!! he can blend or he can BANG!! the next tune in but hes in control of his records & I LOVE the way he programs! TALENT!! arc-fans note- sander's 2-3 set was VERY-Howells-like- dirty bass & sm funky yet poppy hooks.
3-4 am- this was the core of sanders set. ok the sound was a little 'progressive trance.' in fact he was pumping like 5-10 'trance' tracks- Which I LIKE from sander! melodic- dramatic- ethereal- and still the occasional hard bottom/ tuff beat-- by 120 mins + into sanders set I was having a ball!! met a cool couple from St Pete Fla. dancing with the fellow-sander-porter maniacs at the railing- chilling on the speaker- saw a few arc-heads - I was into sanders progg melodic trance! NOT CHEESE! - QUALITY!!!
the crowd was with him all the way! fist-pumping! drumrolls & crescendoes!
by 4 am i was saying I am loving this set as much as my fave arc sander set- do u remeber april 2003 at arc?? when sander seemed to reach a new level in nyc with the flow and cinematic buildup of the dirty bass & emotive trance climaxes?? sander did it again last night! I was loving it & the crowd was still in the game.
4-5 am. Sander switched styles. he went to a harder techy-house cum-tribal sound...the man can mix BUT tribal bottoms are NOT sanders forte! he needs some of those lawler-type piledriving basslines in there! NOT a pots/pans tribal! sander lost the flow i felt & was just banging for its own sake. the crowd thinned- i was up front & the archeads were still present but i was one of the few STILL juming up & down! still a cute crowd, still a classy club night but sander lost it towards 5 am. porter took over a bit. more of his warm up tracks...the pace slackened. sander came back for a few more progg bangers but the tribal/tech section from 4-5 had cut a hole in the crowd.
i left sweaty semi-mangled but still glowing. some great people in the crobar staff. many great clubbers on this holiday weekend jam. some absolutely awesome tunes from 1 am -4-ish.
I will be back next time sander plays crobar. i love his funky-pop-disco vocals & the epic progg trance climaxes. but his tribal-tech style isnt sanders strength- he's a melodicist & a disco demon at heart- and overall between music & crowd experience

sept 17, 2004 Danny tenaglia headlined the roxy with danny howells opening. both worldclass djs played techno sets with howells being particularly cold. shameful when these 2 artists can play some of the best house music on earth. v. disappointing. its ok in 2008-09 both dt and howells too have p[loayede several brilliant deep house sets - and very moderne too 11

sept 21, 2004 the prodigy returned with their first studio cd since 1997, 'always outnumbered never outgunned.' while 97's fat of the land was an earth shaking funky techno pop lp that went #1 in usa & rocked the world, the 2004 lp was nearly a dud with leaden beats & over-busy arrangements compatred to liam's brilliant 90s pop riffs & hooks. v. disappointing . anjd their most recent lp was more of the same ; big in euro festivals, no more in usa ciao 1
sept 23, 2004. beavher at don hill's frankie's pioneering 80s night. by autumn 2004 beavher had just about run its course after 10 mostly great years. the best beavher's were in the mid-late 90s & it was all downhill from there. on the 23rd guests incl. vito, becca, christy, angelo, and jeff from NJ. best trax were B52's roam, cure inbetween days & diana im coming out. there was no energy & i left at 1:45. gave ritchie birkenhead the trojan soulful reagge cd as i left. bartender big bob's stories about the kinks & the cramps were prob the highlights of the night. well besides diana ross. **1/4 of 5 stars, its definitely not 1996 anymore. 5 years later i dont think frank spins beav in nyc / well maybe in 2010 . we shall see.
* up to discoteque for tony humphries deep funky house. made it til 4:30 **1/2 of 5 stars. gabe told me at cielo carl cox this month that tony took the prize at webster sunday shoutin. i love tony 11
sept 24, 2004 junior vasquez was still at discoteque every friday, a residence that lasted for the summer and autumn of 2004, but was done by year's end. sadly so, it was a rare opportunity to hear the nyc house master himself in an intimate setting with experimental sets weekly. hopefully both junior & danny tenaglia will bring back their intimate weeklies in 2007, DT has promised as much.....jnr at cielo is really good, i went in early 2009 and i hope to make it again by 09/10.

I think maxie is about to break through to the top echelon of worldwide djs after 5 years bubbling under on every taste-makers playlist. in the last year MG has had hit remixes of yes, coldplay & justin, and max's next hit may be the one to put him on the charts. max's sullivan set was a winner in spring 09. hopefully he return soon / 1

* my notes say that bloc party & ARE Weapons were at kinitting factory also but Im not sure. the fab faux were at bowery ballroom. and the NA club opned. in 1986, NA was Nell's, the best nyc club that fall. Nell's was good into the 90s, but NA and now 'the plumm' are not that good at all. theres even a new name for the plumm... youll never learn.
art shows in sept 2004 incl terry richardson at deitch soho. imo terry is a wildly over-rated fotog- really only his ad images are worthy of any attention at all....a piss-poor artist; his dad Bob Richardson is far more significant for his 60s and 70s fashion mag editorials and anyone who knows fashion photography will tell you that. sept 2, 2004 orange park was at sin e. tony humphries was holding down his thursday residence at discoteque on 19th st. orange park was 1 of ny's best bands 5 years ago but disbhanded after 2 indie lps. hopefully tony will play nyc more often, he's one of the most important names in us house music since the 80s.
9/3/04 suicide headlined rothko with a rare 21st century nyc appearance. suicide is arguably the most important us electro punk band ever, and still criminally under-appreciated. I was lucky enough to see suicide open up for the ramones at the palladium jan. 7, 1978. Im sure a few of you wish you could have been there.
sept 4, 2004 sander kleinenberg & steve porter played an excellent hard house/progressive house night at crobar, both djs on top form. hi-lites from sandy: blur song 2 [hard house mix] ; doors' riders on the storm [dance mix] . among 3 best sander sets Ive been at. ****1/4 of 5 stars. my review the day after;

straight to the main room. whoa it was packed! prob as many people as any crobar nyc ive been to. For a summer saturday of long weeknd crowd it was a GOOD crobar crowd! face it crobar is a more 'grown up' club than most in nyc. and i dont mean in a snooty 'fashionista-apprentice-bottles' way- I mean there are people older than 20! most of them!! and its a dressier crowd! thats more POLITE than many clubs! [hello discotq & spirit!!]. that actually came out to have FUN not beefs. that can still drink up , disco down and NOT be extra-mangled AND still look good! there are some foxy women at crobar & generally everyone dresses nice. even the mooks had their style-game on [stencil sleeveless tees? cool for YOU!!] and i repeat there were sm babes! steve porter up. LOVE the crobar dj on stage set up! [the old 'skybox' perch was distant & cold].
listen i LIKE steve porter!! in fact after LES Id say hes the best '2nd tier' NYC dj. [meaning about-to-break- but not of DT/jnr-morales-morillo-fame yet].
OK steves set- half instrumental club bangers. sm dirty basslines. sm proggy cool neo-disco. a few sweet-vocal-sander-style funky tracks. -
also some kinda aimless drifty wanna-be progg snoozers that didnt do much but fill time. SO as an OPENING DJ I think Steve did well- in fact he was banging it out from 1-2 as sander loomed.
in fact that was a pretty jumping opening set and sander dug it [in fact 1-2 times during sanders set, porter took over for 1-2 songs while sander refilled that vodka-cranberry rider on stage]
2 am sanders on. the most cheerful ive ever seen him, well at least since arc anyway. the most connecting with crowd ive seen him.
I LOVED SANDERS SET!
2-3 am- progressive dirty bass bangers with an occasional sweet-pop-hyper-female vocal- listen sander can MIX!!!! he can blend or he can BANG!! the next tune in but hes in control of his records & I LOVE the way he programs! TALENT!! arc-fans note- sander's 2-3 set was VERY-Howells-like- dirty bass & sm funky yet poppy hooks.
3-4 am- this was the core of sanders set. ok the sound was a little 'progressive trance.' in fact he was pumping like 5-10 'trance' tracks- Which I LIKE from sander! melodic- dramatic- ethereal- and still the occasional hard bottom/ tuff beat-- by 120 mins + into sanders set I was having a ball!! met a cool couple from St Pete Fla. dancing with the fellow-sander-porter maniacs at the railing- chilling on the speaker- saw a few arc-heads - I was into sanders progg melodic trance! NOT CHEESE! - QUALITY!!!
the crowd was with him all the way! fist-pumping! drumrolls & crescendoes!
by 4 am i was saying I am loving this set as much as my fave arc sander set- do u remeber april 2003 at arc?? when sander seemed to reach a new level in nyc with the flow and cinematic buildup of the dirty bass & emotive trance climaxes?? sander did it again last night! I was loving it & the crowd was still in the game.
4-5 am. Sander switched styles. he went to a harder techy-house cum-tribal sound...the man can mix BUT tribal bottoms are NOT sanders forte! he needs some of those lawler-type piledriving basslines in there! NOT a pots/pans tribal! sander lost the flow i felt & was just banging for its own sake. the crowd thinned- i was up front & the archeads were still present but i was one of the few STILL juming up & down! still a cute crowd, still a classy club night but sander lost it towards 5 am. porter took over a bit. more of his warm up tracks...the pace slackened. sander came back for a few more progg bangers but the tribal/tech section from 4-5 had cut a hole in the crowd.
i left sweaty semi-mangled but still glowing. some great people in the crobar staff. many great clubbers on this holiday weekend jam. some absolutely awesome tunes from 1 am -4-ish.
I will be back next time sander plays crobar. i love his funky-pop-disco vocals & the epic progg trance climaxes. but his tribal-tech style isnt sanders strength- he's a melodicist & a disco demon at heart- and overall between music & crowd experience

I would LOVE haircut/nick to play more gigs/make an LP in the 21st century! c'mon lads!!!

* the same night my favorite played 169 broadway, a much missed LI pop rock act. the damnwells were at bowery ballroom. vito fun hosted a party at don hills.

oct 8 chus & the low end specialists were at ikon, also known as exit. gw bush & john kerry debated. chus and ceballos have become one of the world's most popular tech-house duos - they rock.

I paid $2000 for 1st row orchestra pit tix- much closer than 1st row orchestra its literally less than a yard from moz's stagelip. the artist elizabeth peyton was feet away from me also. It was the best concert I saw in 2004 & one of the 20 or so best concerts of my 38 years seeing concerts. the setlist: first of the gang to die. bigmouth strikes again. november,. i like you. crashing bores. the more you ignore me. let me kiss you. forgiven jesus. how soon is now. irish blood. never played symphonies. rubber ring. daddys voice. now my heart is full. last night i dreampt. subway train/everyday is like sunday. you know i couldnt last. encore: there is a light.
the only moz-related shows that were better than this one were: the smiths meat is murder at the beacon 1st night. moz at the beacon 2/29/00. and moz's 1992 paramount your arsenal show was about as great as radio city overall. ****3/4 of 5 stars. perhaps the best event i attended club or concert wise in 2004.
* the same night deep dish were at crobar. dubfire and sharam dont play together much anymore. its hurt their populoarity substantially.

oct 31, I attended natalia vodianova & justin portman's halloween russian ball at capitale. guests incl theodora & alex richards. my costume was the new york times page 1!! other great costumes: evil & mrs knieval. the green hornet. best tune: pharrell frontin. also nelly hot in herre. appreciated the free admission & champagne but this was a seriously flat party. natalia was very pretty & taller than youd think in a witches hat. ** of 5 stars. at the time nativodi was arguably the number one model. shes hardly in the top 10 in 2009.

oct 31, I attended natalia vodianova & justin portman's halloween russian ball at capitale. guests incl theodora & alex richards. my costume was the new york times page 1!! other great costumes: evil & mrs knieval. the green hornet. best tune: pharrell frontin. also nelly hot in herre. appreciated the free admission & champagne but this was a seriously flat party. natalia was very pretty & taller than youd think in a witches hat. ** of 5 stars. at the time nativodi was arguably the number one model. shes hardly in the top 10 in 2009.
* the same night 2004 MFer had its annual halloween party at spirit. michael t suddenly stopped mfer a few years back - i guess they couldnt get along.

and the worst film of oct 2004 was taxi with jimmy fallon, queen latifah & gisele bundchen. gisele was another top model in 2009. now shes pregnant with a patriot baby. yuck.
my business meetings incl. alvin valley. he was crazed for any socialite ie tinsley and a fan of p diddy. whatever happened to alvin valley question.
