oct 2, 1999 tiswas was at don hill's with DC's anne summers headlining, an excellent pop/rock/alternative band that hopefully nick will bring back to nyc in 2006/07. sky rocket opened. guests incl. kathleen #1 & #2, & john mooney. top choons from nick's tables incl: papas got a brand new bag, midnight confessions, magnificent 7, I feel good, fools gold 1994, william, trash, jumping jack flash, panic, my generation, sex machine, taxman, heart of glass & stepping stone. ***1/2 of 5 stars.

oct 6, 1999 ON! at life each wednesday night, "move makers & tambourine shakers, the times are changin!" with guest diana balton. mooney suzuki & damned personals performed. top tunes I wanna be adored, shes so high, 2000 light years, bigmouth, fire & I love rock n roll. ***1/2 of 5 stars.
* earlier that night i attended jenna joost's film program at anthology film archives. experimental films incl tim leary be-in & james vanderbeek.

oct 7, 1999 echo & the bunnymen were at irving plaza. setlist: rescue. crocodiles. 7 seas. bring on dancing horses. the back of love. the cutter. killing moon. lips like sugar. do it clean. villiers terrace. over the wall. good show, ***3/4 of 5 stars,
but not a patch on the echo shows i saw in 1982 at peppermint lounge [heaven up here], 1983 roseland [never stop/porcupine], and 1984 savoy [ocean rain].
the 1983 show is one of the 10 best concerts ive seen in 35 years of gigs, and the 1984 show is in my top 20 ever.
as far as i can recall, the 3 best live bands in the 80s were the smiths, echo & bunnymen & the jam, and I was lucky enough to see all of them on every american tour they played nyc in 80s.

sha la lee, william, & green onions. *** of 5 stars

oct 16, 1999 superdrag was at bowery ballroom touring the great dying stars lp with the shiela divine & ultrafine in support. ***1/2 of 5 stars fror the drag.
* the same night the tender idols were at tiswas, another fine brit/rock based out of ATL but with a distinct uk/stones/oasis swagger. support from thirst & out.

oct 21 1999 check out this itinerary: started out the night at culture club [!] for the opening night of justine d's short-lived Trans-Am party. guests incl alec from 99X & hostess penelope tuesdae. *1/2 of 5 stars. also went back at 4 am & it still sucked.
* next to idlewild for the 3rd night of 'magic touch' another party that flopped within weeks. top tune 'the soulful strut.' 1/2* of 5 stars.
* next to bar 13 for broadcast hosted by alex english & michael T. top tunes interesting drug, 2 of hearts & new moon on monday. **1/2 of 5 stars.
* finally beavher at don hills with tunes brown sugar, catch my fall & LOVECATS. **3/4 of 5 stars. not a bad night for 136 years young

oct 23, 1999 tiswas with the excellent miracle man headlining. sharp songs & suits from keith, nick & scott. top tunes: 'morning room' & 'theme from miracle man.'
nick's hits: weirdo & suede cant get enough. ***1/4 of 5 stars.

oct 28, 1999 beavher at don hills with a stunning live performance from lounge lizard/capt kangaroo the sensational johnny fayva. fayva thrilled us with top flyte renditions of tull's aqualung, foreigner hot blooded, mccartney/wings live & let die, & zep's ramble on. guests/fayva groupies incl. chloe sevigny, harold hunter, & anthony langdon. and frankie kept us on our toes with take on me, bust a move, just like heaven & jumping jack flash. ***3/4 of 5 stars

oct 30, 1999 tiswas at dons with thin lizard dawn headlining & pelt & fono opening up. special tis halloween nick was john steed. I was fred perry. top choons: happy hour, give it up or turn it loose & lets spend the night together. ***1/4 of 5 stars & a marvelous time was had by 1 and all........

a favourite film in oct 1999 was araki's splendour with a great britpop soundtrack incl suede, lush [kevin shields remix], & house of love.
